Professional background
Before qualifying as a surveyor, Peter worked on the tools — first as an electrician, later as a plasterer. That practical background underpins a grounded, buildable approach to advice: focused on what actually works on site, not just what looks right on paper.
Peter spent two years in Building Control with Stroma, assessing compliance across a range of residential and mixed-use developments. This gave him first-hand experience of how the regulations are interpreted, applied and enforced in practice.
McKay Building Consultancy works with building owners, managing agents and developers who value clear judgement, proportionate advice and a practical understanding of construction. The focus is always on safety, compliance and long-term outcomes — without unnecessary complexity.
Few building surveyors have stood on both sides of the line — assessing compliance from inside Building Control, then designing and delivering the works themselves.
