The instruction
A block of flats had combustible cedar cladding to its front and side elevations. I was asked to specify a low-maintenance, non-combustible replacement system.
The challenge
The new system had to address external fire spread, match the existing appearance closely enough to satisfy planning, and design out the recurring water ingress around the windows at the same time.
What I did
I produced the specification and liaised with cladding and cavity-barrier manufacturers to confirm a compliant non-combustible product and detail. I specified the weatherproofing details around the openings and, because the change of material needed consent, prepared and submitted the planning application.
The outcome
The client received a single coordinated package — a compliant, lower-maintenance facade with the water-ingress problem designed out — ready to take to tender.
